About the Office of Sustainability

The University of Minnesota Office of Sustainability and the educational campaign It All Adds Up provides direction and coordination for sustainability initiatives on the Twin Cities campus. We are committed to reaching our goal of becoming carbon neutral by 2050 through inclusive projects, cross-campus planning, partnerships, and working with the greater community. We are the connective tissue working in a wide variety of departments and units to shift the culture of the University to better align with its values. We strive to make transformational change through research, education, and University operations.

Our goal is to create a culture of sustainable practices. The Office of Sustainability is a part of Facilities Management and University Services but serves the whole University by collaborating with departments and units across campus to advance the environmental and social sustainability goals of the institution.

We take pride in our ability to listen to students, staff, community members, and other stakeholders. Our office and efforts are not isolated – everyone is welcome to join the conversation. It is key to our mission to remain accountable to the residents of the Twin Cities and include the broader campus community as we create a positive environmental and social impact.

I knew U of M was the right fit for me when I read the Climate Action Plan and saw the consistent, active, and aggressive reduction of the U’s environmental footprint. For me, it was simply not enough to study/research sustainability-related topics; I needed to belong to a community which fosters sustainable change every day. Ski-U-Mah!
