What is a Sustainability Advocate?

This volunteer role calls on students to become campus experts in climate action and agents of sustainable change in partnership with the UMN Office of Sustainability, with support from UMN Recycling. Sustainability Advocates promote, inform, and educate peers on campus climate action and sustainable practices.

As a Sustainability Advocate, you will:

  • Have the opportunity to support the implementation of the new UMN Climate Action Plan (link to plan here...)
  • Educate peers on sustainability practices like composting and conserving energy
  • Plan and execute sustainability and climate action projects on campus
  • Add leadership experience to your resume
  • Gain real-world experience in the growing field of sustainability
  • Create & disperse sustainability-related resources to your peers
  • Be an agent of sustainable change on campus and help move the University of Minnesota toward net-zero
  • Dive deep into recycling and waste diversion through workshops and training resources
