Installation is now complete on the Twin Cities campus' ninth and final on-campus array of the solar project! This latest installation is located in the S104 lot in St. Paul, across from the State Fair transit hub, and will produce approximately 481,000 kilowatt hours of electricity per year. That's enough to power about 45 average Minnesota homes.
In addition to sustainably producing energy, the carport design will keep vehicles in the lot cool from the heat of the sun in the summer and clear of snow in the winter. In total, around 2.4 million kilowatts of electricity are now produced on the Twin Cities campus each year – a great addition to the University of Minnesota's renewable energy portfolio!
Thanks to the project team from several areas including Capital Project Management, Parking and Transportation Services, Planning Space and Real Estate, Energy Management, District Operations, Landcare, Sustainability, and more for working hard to make this project possible and advancing the renewable energy produced on the Twin Cities campus!
