We'll be hearing from three speakers, Pat Gruber, CEO of Gevo, Shiri Ramaswamy, professor in Bioproducts and Biosystems Engineering at UMN, and William Northrop, professor in Mechanical Engineering at UMN.
Dr. Pat Gruber has served as Chief Executive Director of Gevo since 2007. He also served as resident and Chief Executive Officer of Outlast Technologies, Inc., a textiles company, from 2005-2007. He co-founded NatureWorks LLC (formerly Cargill Dow, LLC) (“NatureWorks”) and served as Vice President, Technology and Operations, and Chief Technology Officer from 1997 to 2005. Dr. Gruber was awarded the first ever George Washington Carver Award, recognizing significant contributions by individuals in the field of industrial biotechnology in 2008, as well as the University of Minnesota Outstanding Achievement Award in 2011.
Dr. Shiri Ramaswamy is a professor in the Department of Bioproducts and Biosystems Engineering at the University of Minnesota. He was head of the department for 14 years. He has degrees in chemical engineering and paper science and engineering and over nine years of pulp and paper and chemical industry experience in process and products engineering, process research and development, and chemical applications technology development. Dr. Ramaswamy has published over 100 peer reviewed journal articles, book chapters, conference proceedings papers and other review articles.
Dr. William Northrop has been a professor of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Minnesota since 2011. He received his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Michigan in 2009 and now focuses his research on engine emissions, alternative fuels, and sustainable energy technologies.
